Introduction to Unconscious Bias
Unconscious bias (implicit bias) are unconscious feelings we have towards other people – unconscious feelings that play a strong part in influencing our judgement of certain people and groups, away from being balanced or even-handed, in many different areas of life.
No matter how unbiased we think we are, we may have subconscious negative opinions about people who are outside our own group. Self-Awareness is the first step - If people are aware of their hidden biases, they can monitor and attempt to ameliorate hidden attitudes before they are expressed through behavior.
- Identify our common biases
- Self-reflection to uncover our own personal biases
- Learn strategies that will help turn our learning to action
